This Italian camera (Milan) which is presented as a large box is a DETECTIVE. One thus names the cameras with plates able to take several photographs of continuation without operation of change of plates. Actually, there is a change of plate well, but this one takes place in-house without the box being supposed to be opened. Into the loading, in darkroom, several plates are inserted in the camera, on two guide rails. While closing again the back door, a large spring comes to exert a pressure on the whole of the plates. As soon the photo catch, a handling of the operator made rock the plate impressed to the bottom of the camera (it is what explains the form generally rather high detectives) and the other plates were ahead thorough by the spring until a thrust.
This detective has three lenses for the setting of the focusing distance. These external lenses are to be positioned in front of the lens.

It is provided with a spirit level making it possible to ensure itself of the horizontality of the photograph.

The aperture is adjustable while making swivel the lever which is below the lenses. There is obviously no diaphragm, but a bored plate of holes of various diameters.

This type of camera was in vogue with the turning of the century. This one goes back to approximately 1900. The range Newness Express was declined according to several size of plates.

Each model in the "Express Newness" series is named with a letter, each of which carries a specific meaning or significance.

The Series II boasts a higher level of craftsmanship. The cameras in this series are crafted from walnut plywood covered in Morocco leather. The achromatic lens features a distance adjustment system, achieved by inserting lenses in front of the lens using a small lever located in front of the camera. The lens is equipped with an iris diaphragm. Lastly, the back closure is secured by two buttons concealed beneath the leather.

In this series, the viewfinder covers have a mirror on their inner surface, allowing for eye-level framing and focusing.
